My parents divorced when I was 9 years old. Shortly after,  my mother left the British West Indies behind and embarked on a courageous solo mission abroad - with a relentless commitment to establish a new start for both my brothers and I in Canada - her success radically changed the trajectory of our lives. 

My dad stepped up to raise us, along with the kind leadership and support of my grandfather. 

What my grandpa gifted me was a philosophy—a standard to live up to. 

When I complained something wasn’t fair or thought I wasn’t good enough, my grandpa would say, “Circumstances don’t matter. If others are smarter, have more talent, or are more experienced, you can still WIN. Work harder, study harder, and push yourself further than anyone else will go—Lead By Example."
